THE AMBIANCE OF A DISCONNECT
The Ambiance of a Disconnect was a series of digital photographs, created as part of my Senior Thesis during my senior year at Moravian College.
"As a student, I find that I am engrossed with the little moments that life has to offer - the task of doing laundry, nursing early-morning hangovers, or the atmosphere of entering my empty dorm-room. Finding a balance between poetry and prose, my work utilizes photographs and videos to narrate the unspoken themes of disconnect and loneliness in contemporary life, as seen through my own personal experiences. I transform specific situations into blurred impressions that capture aura, atmosphere or a narrative.
Despite using two different mediums, video and photography act as partners in engaging the viewer with a unique scenario. The seductive quality of a moving image and the curiosity of the still image induce the viewer to project themselves into the work and upon further observation, allow them to implement their own narrative. While my work suggests the sensations of disconnect and loneliness, they can be read on a different level, one that is not necessarily sad, but rather one where we are most susceptible to our own thoughts and be with out true inner selves.
